Hi everyone and welcome to the Essential Photoshop Class

In this class I will take you on a journey through the fabulous world of Adobe Photoshop. In easy to follow modules you will learn how to create amazing images using layers, masks, and all the tools Photoshop has to offer. Plus, not only can you watch the magic unfold but you can also join in and create the same results by downloading the project files. There is no better way to learn than jumping in and having a go.

Don’t worry if you are new to Photoshop. In each module I will explain every step taken to create an edit in a relaxed easy to understand style. Think of me as your personal tutor guiding you through the class and helping you to become a confident photo editor.

Each module will teach you a new skill that you can then go on to apply to your own photographs. This class really will show you how to enhance and edit your photos to a professional level. Module 1: The Photoshop Environment

This module features a tour of the Photoshop workspace and highlights where to find tools, layers, adjustments, filters etc. Plus how to set up your Photoshop workspace correctly to follow along with the class modules.

Module 2: Opening & Saving

Opening and saving a photograph and the various options you have are explained in this module. Plus it features the first edit that you can try by downloading the project files.

Module 3: How Layers Work

Layers are a fundamental part of editing and in this module you will discover how layers work. I will create a layered document using tabletop items and once again you can join in by downloading the project files.

Module 4: How Masks Work

Learn how to target and create adjustments in a specific area of a photograph by using masks. In this module I will create a simple edit by masking an area of the photograph. The project file is available for download so join in and give it a try.

Module 5: The Selection Tools

In this module we will take a look at the various options available to make selections. Making selections is a fundamental part of editing and I will take you through each option with an example edit which of course you can download and join in.
Module 6: Select and Mask

The Select and Mask option allows you to refine your selection to create accurate ‘cut-outs’ Ideal for replacing the background in a photograph. This module has two projects for you to complete where you will replace the background in each.

Module 7: The Transform Tools

Extremely powerful, the many transform tool options allow you to completely change the appearance of an object or layer. You will discover perspective, distort, warp etc while creating a very unusual downloadable image.

Module 8: Adjustment Layers

More on layers, this time Adjustment Layers. Using the many adjustment layer options you can completely change the look of any photograph. Two example edits are featured in this module and as always you can download them and join in.

Module 9: Blend If

The Blend If layer style option allow you to selectively blend layers together and target exactly where you wish the blend to happen. This module features rust, fire and a robot! All available for you to download.

Module 10: The Camera RAW Filter

Giving you most of the options found in Adobe Lightroom the Camera Raw Filter is an extensive selection of tools that can completely transform a photograph. Great for RAW photographs during import and equally as effective when used as a filter when editing a JPEG. Download the project files and discover how amazing the Camera RAW filter can be.

Module 11: Changing Colors

In this module you will discover how to change the color of an item. A yellow Lamborghini becomes a beautiful green official Lamborghini color. Follow along with the project file.

Module 12: Remove Unwanted Items

The power of Photoshop allows you to easily remove unwanted items from your photograph. The various tools are demonstrated in this module where I will create several edited images. Including a Blue Man! Download the project files and make things disappear!

Module 13: Sky Replacement

Photoshop will help you to bring your skies to life using the sky replacement option. Watch as I add new skies to several photos by importing my own choice of skies plus I will show you how to use the brush tool to add sky detail. Once again download the project files to join in.

Module 14: The Blur Tool

In this module I will create depth and movement using the blur options. A static truck becomes a speeding truck, and a hiker walks into the blurry forrest beyond. Spinning wheels also feature. Who knew a blur could make such a dramatic change. A little complicated but download the files and have a go.

Module 15: Cropping and Resizing

The humble crop and resize procedure. Not so humble however as cleverly cropping a photograph can completely alter the composition. And of course resizing a photograph to a specific size is an essential task. Watch all in action and join in with the project files.

Module 16: Adding Text & Logs

In this module you will learn how to add text. From selecting fonts and adding text effects to typing on a curve and creating a logo. Download the project files and add your own text.

Module 17: Retouching and Sculpting

Learn how to retouch and sculpt a face to create a beautiful fashion portrait. This module covers all you need to know about skin smoothing, eye enhancement, adjusting lip colour etc. Techniques used by photo retouchers to create high end fashion images. Download the fabulous photo of Sophie and join in.

Module 18: Tricky Hair Select and Mask

I revisit the select and mask tool to replace the background behind the image of Sophie created in the previous module. Plus show you how to add additional hair using a ‘hair brush’ Use the image you created in module 17 or simply download my edited image.

Module 19: The Neural Filters

Photoshop gives us a helping hand with its Neural Filters. In this module we will take a look at how good or bad they are as we re-edit two previously edited photographs using the Neural Filters. Plus we will have some fun taking a look at the bad side of the Neural Filters.
